SourceAuthority.com expands Engineering Support Services

SourceHorizon, Inc., parent company of the industry leading online marketplace for U.S. custom manufacturing, SourceAuthority.com, announced today the creation of an Engineering Support Services division. Although the company has been offering such services to members of its growing Web community for more than a year, the company's expanded strategic partnership with Cygnus Business Media has made the new division necessary.
“The establishment of the SourceIMD.com website, jointly created with Cygnus, has boosted customer demand for engineering support services,” commented SourceHorizon CEO, Perry Gathings, “and we needed a separate division to respond to that surge.” Gathings appointed Jason Stevens, Professional Engineer, as Chief Engineering Services Officer to manage the new group. Mr. Stevens will be responsible for offering engineering support to the 3,300 members of the SourceAuthority.com marketplace. Prior to joining SourceHorizon, Mr. Stevens was Manager of Manufacturing and Engineering for IMPulse NC, Inc.
“Our goal is to provide project-specific engineering support for marketplace members whose own engineering resources may be limited or unavailable. We will provide comprehensive professional services ranging from drawing review to full scale design and project management,” Stevens said of his new role.
SourceHorizon's partnership with Cygnus Business Media, publisher of more than 50 magazines, including Industrial Machinery Digest, Total Industrial Plant Solutions, and the Surplus Buying and Selling Guide, has given the SourceAuthority.com brand a solid foothold in the U.S. contract manufacturing space.

North Carolina employment in the manufactured parts industry could stabilize or increase with a new service designed to give shop owners greater exposure among large buyers of custom manufactured parts.
SourceHorizon’s Perry Gathings and Brian Self have been working since 2002 to develop their company and form its first subsidiary, SourceAuthority.com, which they describe as an online matchmaking service for buyers and suppliers of custom manufactured parts for a wide variety of industries.
Gathings, SourceHorizon’s president and CEO, was previously in sales, marketing and project management in the custom manufacturing industry. He noticed a need to streamline the RFQ (request for quotes) process, both for buyers and suppliers. Along with Self, vice president and chief operating officer, Gathings is providing what he sees as an essential service to the custom manufacturing business.
“SourceAuthority.com provides North Carolina suppliers the opportunity to generate business from all over the world simply by registering as a supplier on our web site,” said Gathings.
Suppliers who register with SourceAuthority.com are entered into a database that allows them quicker access to Requests for Quotes. Registered buyers save time and money by having immediate access to information about the suppliers who bid on their RFQ’s. This makes their decision easier and, since it increases the number of quotes they receive, pricing is more competitive. Registering as a buyer or supplier is free.
According to the Center for Advanced Purchasing Studies, 90 percent of buyers worldwide are looking at the Internet for purchasing. While working in custom manufacturing, Gathings and Self noticed a trend of buyers turning to the Internet to find new and better sources for parts.

SourceHorizon, Inc. receives TEI Spark Award for business concept

The first TEI Awards Ceremony was held on Thursday, March 28, 2002 at the Piedmont Triad Partnership in Greensboro. A large group of anxious competitors and keen entrepreneurs mingled with local business leaders and members of the press as they eagerly awaited the announcement of the six winners of the SPARK Business Plan Competition.
Out of a total of 46 entrants who submitted business plan ideas ranging from biotechnology startups to service and entertainment companies, 19 finalists were selected and 13 of the finalists received Honorable Mentions.
SourceHorizon’s innovative vision for process improvement in both outsourcing and job shop marketing earned the company top honors.
TEI is an organization that promotes economic development in the North Carolina Piedmont Triad Region by fostering the start-up and success of high-growth companies. High-growth companies are defined as companies that expect to have revenues totaling over one million in revenue within a few years.
